Host: John Ramsden Guestrooms: 3 + 1 self catering cottage. Address: Pump Cottage Bed and Breakfast, Friar Waddon Road, Upwey, Nr. Weymouth, Dorset DT3 4EW England Click here for location. Telephone: 01305 816002, Activities/Attractions: The stunning county of Dorset boasts rolling hills, breathtaking countryside, beautiful villages, sandy beaches and a coastline so unequalled that it has recently received World Heritage status. It is the perfect place to unwind and explore the wealth of attractions, from historic houses and museums, to country parks, shops and markets selling fine local crafts and produce. The more energetic can discover the region on foot, by bicycle or on horseback, or perhaps enjoy a round of golf or a quiet afternoon's fishing. Upwey is an attractive village containing many stone buildings and is situated in pleasant unspoilt countryside about 4 miles south of Dorchester and a similar distance from Weymouth. London (Waterloo) is reached by train from Dorchester in about two and a half hours. The channel port of Weymouth offers regular ferry services to the Channel Islands and the continent. There are exceptional sailing, fishing and bathing facilities at Weymouth and indeed the sailing events of the London 2012 Olympics will be held at Weymouth and Portland. There is an excellent golf course at nearby Came Down Golf Club (2 miles distant). Weymouth, with its award winning sandy beach and historic harbour, is only three miles away from Upwey. The beach is overlooked by a magnificent Georgian seafront and is located at the heart of the Jurassic Coast. The Roman market town of Dorchester is also situated just over three miles to the North. Set in a little wooded valley with the high bare downs above, the spring at Upwey known as The Wishing Well has been visited by tourists since they started coming to Weymouth in the later 18th century. It is the place where the river Wey rises and a sizeable stream emerges from the ground in two springs because the permeable Portland sand and stone meet the impermeable Kimmeridge Clay.
